Christ-Followers Fast

Aug 30, 2026    Pastor John Jordan

In Matthew 6:16–18, Jesus doesn’t say if you fast—He says when you fast. Fasting is a spiritual discipline that shifts our attention away from ourselves and toward God, creating space to seek Him with greater focus and dependence.

Throughout Scripture, God’s people fasted for many reasons: to seek His direction, repent of sin, pray for answers, and stand against spiritual opposition. But biblical fasting is about more than simply going without food. Isaiah 58 reminds us that God is concerned with the heart behind the fast—a heart surrendered to Him and moved by compassion for others.

In Christ-Followers Fast, Pastor John explores the biblical purpose of fasting, why followers of Jesus practice it, and how fasting can draw us into a deeper dependence on God.
